La Junta’s annual classic car gathering brought together vintage vehicles, local history and community pride as residents visited City Park to celebrate the region’s automotive heritage. The Southeast Colorado Antique Vehicle Club, founded in 1966, marked sixty years of preserving and showcasing vehicles from across the region, according to SECO News.
Vice President Greg Holt said the club now includes forty eight members and welcomes anyone with an interest in antique vehicles. Membership costs twenty dollars a year and does not require owning a vehicle. The club is based at the Otero Museum, where visitors can leave a note or contact members directly.
This year’s event featured vehicles from Ordway, Las Animas and Lamar, along with families and young visitors exploring engines and craftsmanship up close. Holt displayed his Jeep with a sign encouraging children to touch and learn about its parts, hoping to inspire future generations to carry on the tradition.
The gathering remains a highlight for local enthusiasts, offering a look at the vehicles that shaped transportation and community life in southeast Colorado.
