The Colorado Minerals, Fossils and Gems Show at the Denver Coliseum brings together one of the largest collections of geological and paleontological material in the region. The annual event, which features more than 300 exhibitors from across the world, offers visitors a chance to explore minerals fossils, meteorites, and handcrafted artwork presented by international vendors. According to event organizers, the show is part of the broader Denver Gem and Mineral Showcase, a city-wide series of exhibitions that attracts thousands of attendees each September.
The video above documents a walkthrough of the outdoor and indoor vendor areas, beginning with rows of booths arranged across the Denver Coliseum parking lot. Exhibitors display a wide range of geological material,, including Peruvian gemstones, amethyst-lined agates, jade knives from Mexico, and human-sized crystal formations. Many of the vendors specialize in handcrafted mineral art, such as gemstone-chip wire trees made from citrine, clear quartz, and other stones, as well as carved bowls produced from onyx, agate, and calcite.
Inside the venue, visitors encounter meteorites, fluorescent mineral lamps, and extensive natural history collections. These include mounted butterflies, sulfur crystals, preserved insects, reptile specimens, and skulls from various species. One vendor described the appeal of the show by stating, “Each vendor and table is unique, giving people plenty of options to find something they like.” The show also features large fossil displays, including sauropod and theropod skeletons, trilobites, ammonites, Pleistocene megafauna remains, and marine reptile skulls such as mosasaurs and prehistoric crocodiles.
The even provides attendees with an opportunity to observe geological and paleontological specimens from multiple eras and regions in a single location. Through its combination of scientific material, cultural craftsmanship and international vendors, the Colorado Minerals, Fossils and Gems Show continues to serve as a significant gathering point for collectors, educators and visitors interested in Earth’s natural history.
